When Did We Start Thinking Feeling Bad was Normal ?
When did we start believing that being tired, hurting, and having no energy was just part of getting older? In Blog #12, we're talking about why it's important to listen to our bodies, stop putting ourselves last, and remember that getting older doesn't mean giving up on feeling better.

When Did We Start Thinking Feeling Bad Was Normal?
Just because something is common doesn't mean we should ignore it.
I've been thinking about something lately.
When did we all start accepting that feeling tired, hurting, not sleeping well, and having absolutely no energy was just part of getting older?
Seriously, think about it.
How many times have you heard someone say, "Well, I'm just getting old"?
I've said it myself!
You wake up tired even though you've been in bed all night. Your joints hurt. Your mind feels like it has 15 tabs open, and you can't remember why you walked into the kitchen.
And what do we do?
We laugh about it, grab another cup of coffee, and keep going.
But I've started asking myself a different question.
What if some of the things we've accepted as normal are actually things we should be paying more attention to?
Now, don't misunderstand me. I'm 58 years old. I know I'm not 25 anymore, and I'm certainly not pretending I am.
I've got my aches and pains. I've had my struggles with weight, energy, and plenty of other things. Some mornings I feel great, and other mornings my body has a completely different plan than I do.
But here's what has changed for me.
I don't automatically accept feeling bad as something I just have to live with.
We Spend Years Taking Care of Everybody Else
I think especially as women, we get really good at putting ourselves at the bottom of the list.
We take care of our husbands, children, grandchildren, parents, homes, jobs, and whatever else life throws our way.
And somewhere in all that, we forget to take care of ourselves.
We tell ourselves we'll start eating better Monday.
We'll exercise when things slow down.
We'll get more sleep next week.
We'll make that doctor's appointment when we have time.
And before we know it, another year has gone by.
I've been there.
The funny thing is, if someone we love isn't feeling well, we're the first ones encouraging them to do something about it.
But when it's us?
"Oh, I'm fine."
Are we really?
My Health Journey Changed the Way I Think
When Robert and I started taking a closer look at our health, we weren't trying to become experts.
We were just tired of being tired.
We wanted to feel better, lose weight, have more energy, and hopefully enjoy a whole lot more years together.
We started reading, researching, asking questions, and learning about things we'd never even heard of before.
That's eventually what led us into longevity, biohacking, and the world of molecules.
And let me tell you, once you start researching one thing, you end up with about 20 more questions!
Some things we've learned have been exciting. Some have been confusing. And some have made us realize just how much we still don't know.
But one of the biggest lessons I've learned has nothing to do with a particular supplement, peptide, or new health trend.
It's this:
You have to start paying attention to yourself.
Not what your neighbor is doing.
Not what somebody on TikTok says changed their life overnight.
Not what the latest advertisement promises.
Yourself.
How are you sleeping?
How are you feeling when you wake up?
Are you eating enough of the right foods?
Are you moving your body?
Are you constantly stressed?
And when something doesn't feel right, are you actually trying to find out why?
Not Everything Needs Another Product
Now here's something you might not expect me to say.
Not every problem needs another supplement, another peptide, or another expensive gadget.
Sometimes we make health so complicated that we forget the simplest things.
Drinking enough water.
Eating real food.
Getting outside.
Moving our bodies in ways we're able to.
Putting the phone down and getting some sleep.
And sometimes, making an appointment and having an honest conversation with our doctor.
I'm all for learning about new science. That's a huge part of why we started The Molecule Movement.
But I also believe we have to be careful not to chase every new thing that comes along.
Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's right for everybody.
And just because something worked for one person doesn't mean it's going to work for you.
Trust me, I've learned that one!
I Don't Want to Just Get Older. I Want to Enjoy Getting Older.
This is probably the biggest reason I'm so interested in longevity.
It's not because I think we can stop aging.
We can't.
And it's not because I'm trying to look 25 again.
Although I wouldn't complain if a few wrinkles decided to disappear! Ha!
It's because I want to enjoy my life.
I want to have the energy to spend time with my grandchildren.
I want to travel, laugh, try new things, and make memories with Robert.
I want to wake up looking forward to the day instead of wondering how I'm going to get through it.
And I know there are things in life we can't control.
Bodies change. Health problems happen. Some days are simply harder than others.
But I still believe we can do our best with what we've been given.
For me, that means continuing to learn, making changes when I need to, and not giving up on myself just because I've reached a certain age.
So Here's My Question for You
Have you been putting something off when it comes to your health?
Maybe you've been ignoring how tired you are.
Maybe you've been meaning to get back to walking.
Maybe you've been wanting to change how you eat.
Or maybe you've been so busy taking care of everybody else that you haven't stopped to ask yourself how you're doing.
You don't have to change everything tomorrow.
Pick one thing.
Just one.
And start there.
Because I really don't believe we're ever too old to learn something new or make a change that helps us live better.
I don't have all the answers. Robert and I are still figuring things out ourselves.
But that's the whole reason we started this blog.
To share what we're learning, talk about the good and the bad, ask questions, and hopefully encourage somebody else along the way.
Getting older is a privilege. But taking care of ourselves along the way is something worth making time for.
And if you're sitting there thinking you've waited too long to start taking your health seriously, I hope you'll reconsider.
You still have a life to live.
And I think that's worth showing up for.
Until next time, keep asking questions, keep learning, and don't forget to take care of YOU.
