Can We Really Slow Down Aging.

I don't want to live forever, I just want to live well while I'm here! My mother is 80 and still goes and does, and I admire that so much. So can we actually slow down aging and stay healthier longer? Let's talk about what I'm learning and why I'm paying a whole lot more attention to HOW we age. ❤️.

Can We Really Slow Down Aging?

Blog #7 — This One Is for My Mother ❤️

This blog is a little different.

This one is dedicated to my mother.

She's 80 years old, and when I think about what I want aging to look like for me, I think about her.

My mother still goes and does.

She stays active. She gets out. She enjoys life. She doesn't look at 80 as an age where she's supposed to sit down and watch the world go by.

And I admire her for that more than she probably knows.

That's the Kind of “Anti-Aging” I Want

We hear so much about anti-aging these days.

Creams, supplements, treatments, peptides, procedures and a million different things promising to help us look younger.

And listen... I'm not against looking a little younger. 😂

But the older I get, the more I realize that's not the kind of anti-aging that matters most to me.

I want to feel good enough to live my life.

I want to move.

I want to have plans.

I want to laugh.

I want to spend time with the people I love.

I want to wake up and still have things I want to do.

That's what I see when I look at my mother.

Maybe It's More About Healthspan

One thing I've learned while studying longevity is the difference between lifespan and healthspan.

Lifespan is how many years we're alive.

Healthspan is how many of those years we're healthy and independent enough to actually enjoy.

That really changed the way I think about getting older.

I don't just want MORE years.

I want good years.

Science is now looking deeper into why our bodies age — things like our mitochondria, muscle loss, inflammation, cellular changes, NAD+, metabolism and even certain peptides.

There's some fascinating research happening.

But with everything I've learned, something pretty simple keeps coming back to me.

We can't control everything about aging.

But we can give ourselves a fighting chance.

Move our bodies.

Keep our muscles strong.

Eat reasonably well.

Sleep.

Stay connected to people.

Keep our minds active.

Find things that make us happy.

And most importantly...

Don't stop living just because another birthday shows up.

Mom, I Hope I'm Like You

I don't know what I'll be doing when I'm 80.

None of us are promised tomorrow, much less another 20 or 30 years.

But I do know what I hope.

I hope I'm still curious.

I hope I'm still laughing.

I hope I'm still making plans.

I hope my family is saying, “Good grief, she's gone again.” 😂

And I hope I'm still going and doing.

Mom, you may not realize it, but you're teaching me something about longevity that I could never learn from a book or a class.

You're showing me what it looks like to keep living your life as the years go by.

And I admire you for it.

So Blog #7 is for you, Mom. ❤️

If I'm blessed enough to make it to 80, I hope I'm still going and doing just like you.

I love you.

Until next time,
Kimberly ❤️
